Assumptions and method
Formula
- CAGR = (end / start)^(1 / years) − 1
- Absolute return = end / start − 1
- With dates: years = days / 365
Not included
- Additions or withdrawals in between (use XIRR for those).
This is an illustration based on the return you entered. Actual returns vary and may be lower or negative.
Past performance may or may not be sustained in future. Returns shown are not an indication of future returns.
Mutual fund investments are subject to market risks, read all scheme related documents carefully.
How it works
CAGR (compound annual growth rate) is the steady yearly rate that turns a starting value into an ending value over a period. It smooths out the ups and downs in between.
Use it for a single investment with no additions or withdrawals. For SIPs or several transactions, use XIRR instead.
Frequently asked questions
CAGR or absolute return?
Absolute return ignores time. CAGR annualises it, so investments held for different periods can be compared. For periods under a year, regulations require absolute return for funds.
Can I use CAGR for a SIP?
No. A SIP has many investment dates. XIRR handles that correctly.
